About Moonlight Social

Rooted in Island Life, Built for Small Businesses
Moonlight Social was created to help Alaska’s small businesses find their glow online. I know what it’s like to juggle everything — running a business, chasing your kids, serving your community, and still trying to show up consistently on social media. My goal is to make that easier, so you can focus on what you do best while your online presence works quietly in the background.
Hi, I’m Johanna — the heart behind Moonlight Social.

Growing up on Prince of Wales Island, I didn’t think much about how special it was — it was just home, always there, always familiar. It wasn’t until I left for college in Portland that I realized what I’d taken for granted: the sense of connection, the slower pace, the way small businesses hold this community together.
My mom worked for years as an assistant manager at Black Bear for most of my life, and watching her gave me a front-row seat to what it really takes to keep a local business running: the long hours, the problem-solving, and the genuine care behind every decision. That’s where my love for small businesses began, even if I didn’t know it yet.
In college, I majored in English because I loved words and stories. But one semester, I joined a student publication that combined writing with design, and something clicked. I loved how visuals and language could work together to tell a story. That experience quietly planted a seed that would grow into Moonlight Social years later.
My Philosophy
Living in a small town on a big island means community is everything. And that’s what I love most about social media: it’s an extension of that same community. It’s a place to share what makes your business special, to connect with locals, and to reach people far beyond the shoreline.
I think a lot of people see marketing and social media as a chore, something separate from their actual work. But when you look at what really connects people, it’s not sales pitches. It’s moments. Laughter. A story. A small glimpse into what makes your business human.
That’s what I want to create. I focus on connection and education, because when people understand who you are and what you do, the sales come naturally.
For me, success looks like growth, whatever that means for you. Maybe that’s more followers, more customers, or maybe it’s finally feeling confident managing your own social presence. If you leave Moonlight Social with knowledge, confidence, and a brand that feels true to you... That’s success in my book.
What I Bring to the Table
When I work with someone, I don’t just learn their business, I immerse myself in it. I want to know why you started, what motivates you, how your seasons run, and what makes you proud.
I become a little obsessed, in the best way. Big agencies don’t have time for that kind of focus, but I do. I believe in sitting down with you over coffee, asking a million questions, and figuring out what feels most authentic to your brand.
My communication style is conversational and question-based. I don’t throw around jargon or buzzwords; I want this to feel like collaboration, not consulting. Like when I asked a client which fonts he hated instead of which ones he liked, because sometimes it’s easier to start there.
I’m good at learning. At absorbing. At seeing patterns and understanding what makes something work. And I’m good at translating all of that into visuals and words that feel unmistakably like you.
Why “Moonlight Social”
I’ve always loved the moon, how it changes, cycles, and still controls the tides. When I was naming this business, I thought about the fact that I’m literally moonlighting while building it, working late into the night after my full-time job. And in the winter months, when the island grows quiet, most of my work really will be done by the light of the moon.
The name just fit.
It’s a reflection of balance, between day and night, work and creativity, professionalism and passion.
I started Moonlight Social to help our businesses... your business, shine. Not by changing who you are, but by helping the rest of the world see it too.
So what do you say — ready to glow with me? 🌙
